Understanding Innovation:
How firms innovate and what governments can do to help -
Wales and Thuringia compared
Chris Hendry, James Brown, Hans-Dieter Ganter and Susanne Hilland
This study looks at the relative impact of national governments on the
innovation of
firms through various infrastructure policies. It focuses on the opto-electronics
industry
in two regions of the UK and Germany: Wales and Thuringia. While both regions
are characterized by active regional policies, they provide a striking contrast
in the orientation of their opto-electronics industries and the thrust of regional
policy.

The Regulatory State:
Britain and Germany Compared
Roland Sturm, Stephen Wilks, Markus M. Müller and Ian Bartle
Over the past two decades the industrial societies of Britain and Germany
have undergone dramatic transformation. One of the most notable features
is the prominence given to regulation as a technique of governance and
the rise of a 'new regulatory state' in Europe. There are many detailed
analyses of regulation in the two countries, principally by economists
and lawyers. There are, however, fewer studies by political scientists.
This comparison of Britain and Germany provides a perspective on British
developments; assesses the extent to which British reforms are influencing
those in Germany; provides a comparison between the two capitalist 'models'
- the Anglo-Saxon and the continental 'Rhineland' model; and assesses the
extent of convergence and the persistence of divergence.

Gleichzeitig
diskutiert sie
die "Wettbewerbsfähigkeit" von zwei "Modellen" der
Staats-Wirtschaftsbeziehungen:
des "angelsächsischen" und des "rheinischen" Modells.
